Notes for Robert Franklin Swingle

Robert graduated from Newark High School, Newark, Ohio. He also enlisted in the service after entering Wittenberg College, Springfield, Ohio. He served fifteen months with Battery A, 61st Heavy Field Artillery. Six months he spent in France. He was discharged in March of 1919 and went directly back to Wittenberg from which he graduated in 1920.
Mr. Swingle had quite q busy life in the business world. He spent two years in Costa Rica with The United Fruit Company and was a Bond saleman for Hayden Miller Company in Cleveland, Ohio.
In 1941 Robert moved into Aiken, South Carolina. There he established the Swingle Chevrolet and Cadillac Agency. He sold that business in the 50's and organized Walker-Swingle Real Estate Company. In later years he was associated with Fritzlen-Swingle Real Estate Company.
Upon his death, the Aiken Standard Newspaper praised Mr. Swingle for his community positions and projects; President of Rotary Club 1944-1945, Chairman of Aiken County Red Cross Chapter, and President of the Aiken Business Men's Club. He had supported development of business in the downtown areas of Aiken and he also supported an Aiken Cotton Festival durning its "heyday".
He was a member of St. Thaddeus Episcopal Church.
