Notes for Fred M. Pine

[slade.FTW]

Fred and Edna were married by George E. Guild, with Archibald W. Pine and Emily Ogden Guild as witnesses. In 1915 when Mr. Pine married, he was a resident of Chicago, Illinois. Mr. and Mrs. Pine lived at 8 Griswold St for many years. In the early 1870's the street was still pasture land. At one time Fred worked for the Chicago Portrait Co. It was founded in 1893 and located at 509 S. Wabash Ave., Chicago, Illinois. The men who worked there traveled, taking photographs and then mailing the film to the company who would mount the photos in large frames and return them to the customers. The book entitled Chicago Portrait Co.- 1905 has photos of its personnel.
Mr. Pine was a stout man in later life who loved good food. He was especially fond of clam bakes in the summer and regarded eels as a delicacy. He died suddenly at home in his chair after a heart attack.
