After workding in Waterloo (Iowa) for a time, he served in the armed forces in World War II in Texas and overseas. Upon his return to Des Moines, he went to Drake University. After graduation he worked in Texas, then for the American Broadcasting Company in Chicago, and has been with ABC in Los Angeles for many years.
