Left
is a photograph of my half-2nd Great Uncle, Gottfried 'Fred' Petznick.
I remember hearing stories about 'Uncle Fred' Petznick from our family
babysitter, Jennie Henry Wycoff, who had this picture in her home and was
related to him by marriage. |

Petznick's Grove |
|
Several
years ago, an article appeared in the Creston News Advertiser (Creston, Union County, Iowa) about Petznick's Grove,
property owned by Gottfried Petznick. It was written Gottfried's
daughter, Queenie Petznick Young. I had heard all about this place
while growing up, unfortunately I've never visited the place since it is
now under private ownership and is no longer open to the public. |

William C.
Petznick -
b: 24 Aug 1880 Creston, Union County, Iowa - d: 30
Mar 1958 Creston, Union County, Iowa |
Several
years ago when I lived in Topeka, KS, I found The History of Union County,
Iowa in the Public Library. At the time, I was surprised to find the
page on the left that listed what I assume was Creston's version of the
National Guard, or home militia, that included the name of William C.
Petznick, listed as a Corporal. Unfortunately, I didn't record what
year's History it was, but I am assuming it was published around 1900.
Also at the time, I didn't know that William C. Petznick was the son
of Gottfried. |
